Holiday Excitement in Murray
Starting Friday, December 2, Murray will be a hustling and bustling place full of holiday cheer. The holidays are a notoriously busy time in Murray, we have so many events throughout the community, but the first weekend of December is bigger and busier than ever. The Murray Convention and Visitors Bureau wanted to put together a list of every event and time to make getting to each thing easier for your family and friends!
Friday December 2
Santa will be in his house located on the Main Street side of the court square. Stop by, get a picture, tell him what is on your list and enjoy the rest of the excitement downtown.
The place to be is on the court square awaiting the lighting of the Community Christmas Tree. Lighting the Community Christmas Tree is the kick-off for Dickens' Downtown. The Community Christmas Tree is on the courthouse lawn at the corner of 5th and Maple.
Following Community Christmas Tree Lighting
Dickens' Downtown, hosted by Murray Main Street and Kenlake Foods, will be going on throughout the court square. Attendees can enjoy cookie decorating, storytelling, holiday-inspired entertainment at the Robert O. Miller Conference Center, Santa letter writing, Candy Cane Lane and making reindeer food. Concessions will also be sold by the Murray High Band Booster, located at Soup for the Soul on 5th and Maple.
Town and Gown Community Band and Chorale will be doing their Holiday Concert in First Baptist Church. The music will surely put you in the holiday spirit! This event is free to attend.
Saturday, December 3
Downtown stores will be open for you to get all of your holiday shopping done. Be sure to stop by and see what special deals they will have available!
Santa will be back in his house on the court square for you to stop by and see him!
Murray High Band Boosters will be located at Murray Middle School selling a chili supper. With chili nachos, hot dogs and grilled cheese you and your family can grab food before snagging your seat for the Rotary Christmas Parade. Santa will also be at Murray Middle School from 3:30-5:00 p.m. for pictures. Murray High Band Boosters will be there until after the parade too, if you want some chili to warm-up after watching the parade.
The Second Annual Holiday Hustle will be running from 10th Street down to past the court square. Young Professionals of Murray and CFSB have put together this "fun run" to raise money for local charities and non-profit organizations. Participants are encouraged to dress in their best holiday garb. You can walk or run as the crowd's line up to cheer you on before the parade.
Murray Electric System teamed up with Murray's Rotary Club for the Second Annual Rotary Light Up Christmas Parade will begin at 5:00 p.m. With over 60 entries, the community will be dazzled by all of the floats, cars and even animals decked out in Christmas Lights. You will want to be sure to stay to the very end for Santa! GEC will be bringing Santa in on his sleigh as the last float of the parade. Not only can you enjoy the work of all the businesses and organizations, you can vote for your favorite! David Taylor's Text to Vote, allows you to vote for your favorite entry and help them earn a custom trophy from Murray's Rotary Club.
If getting out in the crowd and cold is something you are hoping to avoid, you can watch the parade from the comfort of your own home. On Murray Electric's channel, you can watch the parade with Councilman, Jeremy Bell, and Harold Hudson as your hosts.
After the excitement of the parade, you can go cheer on your Murray State Racers at the CFSB Center. Go Racers!
